Climate Change and Türkiye

Within its complex climate structure, Turkey is one of the countries that will be most affected by any climate change, especially due to global warming. Naturally, different regions of Turkey will be affected by climate change in different ways and to different extents due to being surrounded by seas on three sides, having a faulty topography and orographic features. For example, arid and semi-arid regions such as Southeastern and Central Anatolia, which are more threatened by desertification due to temperature increases, and semi-humid Aegean and Mediterranean regions, which do not have enough water, will be more affected.

Annual temperatures and highest temperatures began to increase in Turkey. 2020 was the third hottest year recorded in Turkey. Although Turkey will be greatly affected by climate change, it currently faces challenging weather conditions. The main dangers of this situation are drought and heat waves.
