In addition to climate change, some measures have been taken in the past that have caused undesirable negative effects on air quality. For example, many countries have encouraged diesel vehicles, but this creates high levels of air pollutants. Similarly, the promotion of burning renewable wood in some parts of Europe has unfortunately led to high levels of particulate matter in local air. We need to learn from such examples and the consequences of the measures we choose to implement must be properly understood and evaluated
